Res Practica is an international, peer-reviewed, open-access journal published by the Centre de recherche en éthique (CRÉ). It succeeds Les Ateliers de l’éthique / The Ethics Forum, continuing that journal’s commitment to rigorous and accessible scholarship on ethical and normative questions.
Aims
Res Practica creates a space for fruitful exchange between researchers from a variety of disciplines whose work bears on ethical, political, and more broadly normative questions.
The journal pursues two related goals. The first is to deepen our understanding of the practical problems confronting individuals and societies by bringing to light the philosophical assumptions those problems often leave implicit. The second is to encourage the exploration of innovative responses to normative dilemmas, with a view to informing ethical guidelines and public policy.
Scope
Res Practica invites authors to reach across traditional disciplinary divides. We welcome work from moral and political philosophy, applied ethics, political science, and law, as well as from any discipline whose expertise can cast light on pressing practical questions. We are especially interested in contributions that show how these fields illuminate one another.
The journal gives particular attention to the normative dimensions of public policy and social practice, in areas as varied as health, the management of the human and natural environment, commerce, social and cultural diversity, justice, education, feminist studies, and relations between the global North and South. It also publishes work in applied ethics — including business ethics, animal ethics, and bioethics — and welcomes research on the foundations of ethics and its central concepts, such as moral psychology, deliberation, and the emotions, particularly where such work bears on practical questions. Many contributions will span several of these areas at once.

Res Practica publishes in French and English. The journal is committed to promoting exchange between francophone and non-francophone authors.
Publication Frequency
Res Practica publishes two issues per year. Articles accepted for publication are made available on this site in advance of their issue, under First View, and are subsequently published in their final form by Érudit.
